A generous yarn, an airy knit, plenty of softness and a few simple care tips to help it last.
We’re telling you everything about BLOOM (and, most importantly, how to care for it so you can keep it for a long time!)
At Des Petits Hauts, knitwear has been a story that has lasted for more than 25 years. A story of yarns, colours, craftsmanship and, above all, softness.
With BLOOM, we imagined a new wardrobe essential: a soft, enveloping knit with a delicately airy volume, available in 10 colours and designed to accompany everyday life.
BLOOM: the secrets behind our new favourite knit
N.01 It all starts with the yarn
The knit of [BLOOM] combines 40% mohair and 4% wool, complemented by 18% nylon and 2% elastane.
That means 80% wool and mohair, two fibres chosen for their warmth, softness and ability to create a naturally enveloping knit.
[Mohair], sourced from the fleece of the Angora goat, brings that characteristic fluffy, lightweight and luminous feel. Wool contributes warmth and comfort to the sweater.
Nylon and the touch of elastane complete the blend, providing structure, durability and flexibility to the knit.
The result? A thick, soft and generous yarn, designed to create volume without making the knit feel too compact.
N.02 Why is BLOOM so airy?
Because everything also comes down to the knitting process.
BLOOM is knitted in 3-gauge, which knitwear specialists refer to as a chunky gauge.
What does that mean in practice? The machine uses fewer needles per inch than a fine gauge. The resulting knit is therefore more open, more generous and more voluminous, with the loft that gives BLOOM its distinctive character.
Its yarn is also worked as a single strand: it is knitted on its own, without combining several strands during the knitting process. Its thickness alone is enough to give the sweater its volume and character.
N.03 DOES A MOHAIR KNIT NEED TO BE WASHED OFTEN?
No — quite the opposite.
A [wool and mohair knit] does not need to be washed after every wear. Between wears, a few hours laid flat in a well-ventilated room are enough to freshen it up before putting it away.
Spacing out washes also helps preserve the fibre, its loft and its fluffy appearance for longer.
N.04 HOW DO YOU WASH BLOOM WITHOUT LOSING ITS SOFTNESS?
BLOOM likes to be treated gently.
We recommend hand washing in cold or slightly warm water, around 20–25°C, with a small amount of liquid detergent specifically designed for wool.
Leave it in the water for 5 to 10 minutes maximum and simply press it gently a few times. There is no need to rub, brush or wring the knit.
Also avoid harsh detergents, stain removers, bleach and fabric softener. When rinsing, use water at a similar temperature to the washing water.
N.05 AND WHEN IT COMES TO SPINNING? ABOVE ALL, DON’T WRING IT
Once rinsed, gently press the sweater between your hands to remove excess water.
Our tip: lay it flat on a clean towel, gently roll the towel up with the sweater inside, then apply light pressure.
The towel will naturally absorb some of the moisture without putting stress on the fibres.
N.06 FLAT DRYING: THE STEP TO REMEMBER
A wet knit is heavier and can easily lose its shape.
BLOOM should therefore always be dried flat, taking a few seconds to reshape it and restore its original dimensions.
Avoid hangers while it is wet, as well as the tumble dryer, radiator and direct sunlight.
N.07 SHOULD YOU IRON MOHAIR?
Ideally, as little as possible. Once properly dried flat, BLOOM should naturally regain its shape.
If necessary, use an iron at very low temperature, 110°C maximum, preferably on the reverse side and without pressing down, so as not to flatten its beautiful loft. You can also use a pressing cloth.
Another option: gently steam it, using low intensity and holding the steamer a few centimetres away from the knit, without direct contact.
The key idea: the less you flatten the fibre, the better it will retain its airy, fluffy appearance.
N.08 AND IN YOUR WARDROBE? ALWAYS FOLDED
To preserve its straight, boxy shape and beautiful volume, BLOOM prefers to be stored flat rather than hung on a hanger for long periods. This prevents the shoulders from becoming marked and the knit from gradually stretching.
BLOOM, a knit to love for a long time
A few simple gestures are all it takes to care for it: air it regularly, wash it sparingly, handle it gently, dry it flat and store it folded.
